There’s been a lot going on behind the scenes at Wilmington Catholic Radio over the past year. We’ve been exploring expanding our footprint in southeastern North Carolina in order to give you a stronger signal. It looked like the Federal Communications Commission was going to allow more low power FM stations, so we started down that path only to learn later that the allocations were significantly delayed. We were also waiting for an announcement from the FCC that would allow low power stations to increase their power output, but the FCC decided not to address that issue. Deciding whether or not to add new programs from additional sources is ongoing. New government regulations required us to replace perfectly good station equipment at considerable cost in order to upgrade the emergency alert system.

One tangible result this year was that we were able to change our frequency to 93.1 FM which eliminated a cause of untold frustration with the interference that we had no control over. We hope that the change has proven beneficial to you, too.  We think it was worth the cost.

In October, our Holy Father launched the Year of Faith which emphasizes our need to be part of the “New Evangelization.” This has been and continues to be our focus since our launch in 2004. Every member of Christ’s Church is called to evangelize or bring others to a more complete communion. This responsibility doesn’t rest only with our bishops and priests. Wilmington Catholic Radio takes this responsibility seriously; this past October, we brought in a speaker from the Thomas International Center who spoke about Moral Guidelines for Voting, and this coming May 10th, we will sponsor a talk featuring Bud MacFarlane Sr. on Marian Apparitions and the meaning of her messages for our times.

Although our national affiliate, Relevant Radio, has quarterly pledge drives, Wilmington Catholic Radio hasn't formally asked for donations since the last Bruce Cavenaugh Charity Raffle back in 2008. We were receiving donations on a fairly steady basis, and our policy is not to ask for money we don't need. However, over the years, donations have slowly dropped to the point where they are no longer covering our operating expenses. Please be assured that we value your contributions.  To keep expenses as low as possible, all of us here, the board of directors and staff alike, are all unpaid volunteers.

If you can help, send your contribution to Wilmington Catholic Radio, PO Box 12321, Wilmington, NC 28405. Alternatively, you can go to our website, WilmingtonCatholicRadio.com, and click on the Donate button on the left hand side of the home page. There you can use PayPal, credit cards, or bank drafts. And, yes, we’re a 501.c.3 organization so you may deduct your donation.
