February's Teaching Moment

During Lent, Catholics give up some small pleasure or add some pious act to heighten their faith journey during Lent. One way to enhance your Lenten experience could be to add the pious gesture of bowing your head at the Holy Name of Jesus. It’s a small, exterior act that is meant to remind us interiorly of Christ’s presence. Pope Gregory X exhorted the faithful to have a devotion to the Name of Jesus, saying that “…whenever that glorious name is recalled, especially during the sacred mysteries of the Mass, everyone should bow the knees of his heart, which he can do even by a bow of his head.” His name Itself is a powerful prayer. This simple yet profound act of reverence saying and bowing at the Holy Name of Jesus gives God infinite joy and glory and fills our souls with His peace and joy.
