January's Teaching Moment

As we make our New Year's resolutions, you may want to add two simple but powerful prayers to your life: saying the name of Jesus and The Jesus Prayer. January is dedicated to the Holy Name of Jesus, and there is a simple gesture that you can do as an act of reverence for His name. Upon saying or hearing the name of Jesus, which means, "God saves", gently bow your head. The name of Jesus is the most powerful name in all of Heaven and earth. Demons flee at His name, and tradition says this gesture makes amends for the blasphemous use of His name. And you can also say the Jesus Prayer often during this month: "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner."
