The Christmas Novena

The Church has, in its treasury of prayers, the St. Andrew Christmas Novena which is begun on November 30th, the feast of St. Andrew, and runs until Christmas.

This novena is not addressed to St. Andrew but to God Himself asking Him to grant our request in honor of the birth of His Son.  The imprimatur for this novena was granted by MICHAEL AUGUSTINE, Archbishop of New York, on February 6, 1897, who wrote that it is piously believed that whoever recites this prayer 15 times a day from the feast of St. Andrew until Christmas will obtain what is asked.

Hail and blessed be the hour and moment
in which the Son of God was born
of the most pure Virgin Mary,
at midnight, in Bethlehem, in piercing cold.

In that hour vouchsafe, O my God!
to hear my prayer and grant my desires,
through the merits of Our Savior Jesus Christ,
and of His Blessed Mother.
