September's Teaching Moment

The Third Commandment requires us to keep holy the Sabbath. That obligation was transferred to Sunday because of the Resurrection of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, and also to holidays of obligation. Today, many may have forgotten or never learned that attending Mass is not all that is required to keep holy these days. For Catholics, we must avoid all servile work, unless necessity obliges, and we must perform works of piety. It is a grave sin not to do so. We can read Scripture, pray the Rosary and the Stations, or visit Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. As a day of rest, we can enjoy reading, writing, music, etc. as long as we don’t prioritize those things over prayer. We must all learn to respect Our Lord’s Day. “And when the gates of eternity shall open to you, you will enter this everlasting rest of which the Sunday’s rest is the image, and which God has prepared for and for evil."

Wilmington Catholic Radio is an apostolate serving the Catholic Church and consistently operating in accord with the principles and truths of the Catholic Faith as expressed in Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition and the living Magisterium of the Church. Our goal is to always provide the community with solid Catholic teaching so Catholics can have an easy way to learn more about their faith, and for non-Catholics to learn what the Church really teaches. This is our mission.
