Ignited By Truth 2018

Carolina Catholic has two presentations featuring the upcoming 15th Annual Ignited by Truth speakers. In the first, we chat with Father Donald Calloway, MIC, a convert to Catholicism,whose topic is The Rosary: The Spiritual Sword of Our Lady; we will also chat with metaphysicist and priest, Father Robert Spitzer who will talk about Near Death Experiences and the Shroud of Turin. In the second, we will hear from Dr. Scott Hahn on his newest book, The First Society, and then we will chat with Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers on evangelization.

Father Donald Calloway, MIC

Fr. Donald Calloway, MIC, a prominent Marian priest, exhibits an unmistakable zeal for the priesthood and devotion to Our Lady. He is a well-known conference speaker on Divine Mercy and the Blessed Virgin Mary. He speaks passionately about these topics in his moving conversion story. He is the editor of two books: The Virgin Mary and Theology of the Body and The Immaculate Conception in the Life of the Church. Father Robert Spitzer

Fr. Spitzer was President of Gonzaga University from 1998 to 2009. While president, he significantly increased the programs and curricula in faith, ethics, service, and leadership, and led the efforts to build 20 new facilities, increased the student population by 75%, and raised more than $200 million for scholarships and capital projects. He has made many TV appearances including: Larry King Live (debating Stephen Hawking and Leonard Mlodinow), The Today Show (debating on the topic of active euthanasia), the History Channel in God and The Universe, a multiple part PBS series Closer to the Truth, and the Hugh Hewitt Show. Father Spitzer is currently appearing weekly on EWTN in Father Spitzer’s Universe.

Dr. Scott Hahn

Dr. Scott Hahn was born in 1957, and has been married to Kimberly since 1979. He and Kimberly have six children and are expecting their fourteenth grandchild. An exceptionally popular speaker and teacher, Dr. Hahn has delivered numerous talks nationally and internationally on a wide variety of topics related to Scripture and the Catholic faith. Hundreds of these talks have been produced on audio and videotapes by St. Joseph Communications. His talks have been effective in helping thousands of Protestants and fallen away Catholics to (re)embrace the Catholic faith.

He has been awarded the Father Michael Scanlan, T.O.R., Chair of Biblical Theology and the New Evangelization at Franciscan University of Steubenville, where he has taught since 1990, and is the founder and president of the Saint Paul Center for Biblical Theology. From 2005 to 2011, he held the Pope Benedict XVI Chair of Biblical Theology and Liturgical Proclamation at St. Vincent Seminary in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Hahn is also the bestselling author of numerous books including The Lamb’s SupperReasons to Believe, and Rome Sweet Home (co-authored with his wife, Kimberly). Some of his newest books are The Creed, Evangelizing Catholics, Angels and Saints, and Joy to the World.

Scott received his Bachelor of Arts degree with a triple-major in Theology, Philosophy and Economics from Grove City College, Pennsylvania, in 1979, his Masters of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in 1982, and his Ph.D. in Biblical Theology from Marquette University in 1995. Scott has ten years of youth and pastoral ministry experience in Protestant congregations (in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Massachusetts, Kansas and Virginia) and is a former Professor of Theology at Chesapeake Theological Seminary. He was ordained in 1982 at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Fairfax, Virginia. He entered the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil, 1986.

Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers

Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers, known around the world as the “Dynamic Deacon”, is one of the most sought-after speakers in the Church today. He is a powerful and passionate evangelist and preacher whose no-nonsense approach to living and proclaiming the Catholic faith is sure to challenge and inspire.

Deacon Harold travels across the United States and around the world speaking at conferences, workshops, parish missions, retreats, high schools and young adult events – in short, to people of all ages and from all walks of life who desire to know Jesus intimately and enjoy a deeper personal relationship with Him.

In addition, he is the host or co-host of several popular series on EWTN television, including Made in His Image: Family Life TodayAuthentically Free at Last and Priests and Deacons: Ministers of Mercy. Deacon Harold is also the author of the best-selling book, Behold the Man: A Catholic Vision of Male Spirituality published by Ignatius Press.

Deacon Harold is featured on The Greatest Commandments: A 40-Week Spiritual Journey for Married Couples, a vibrant marriage-enrichment program rooted in biblical values and designed to help husbands and wives know God better, trust Him fully and love Him completely throughout the course of their married lives.

Retaining a deep love of Benedictine spirituality, which he gained during his time discerning a call to that religious community, Deacon Harold is a Benedictine Oblate of Mount Angel Abbey. He is also a member of the Fellowship of Catholic Scholars, the Confraternity of Catholic Clergy, and a consultation team member for the National Conference of Catholic Bishops’ National Directory for Catechesis.

Most importantly, Deacon Harold is married to his lovely wife, Colleen, and they have four beautiful children. They live in Portland, Oregon, where Deacon Harold is assigned to Immaculate Heart Catholic Church.
