Kristi Wells on the Safe House Project

I spoke with the founder and CEO of Safe House Project, Kristi Wells, about her article published by Live Action called, "Why I fight for trafficking victims and their unborn children." Her incredible organization founded in 2017, Safe House Project, is a national nonprofit dedicated to ending this crime by providing a network of safe houses for survivors, training thousands in law enforcement, working on policy in the fight against trafficking, and preventing trafficking with advances in technology like the app, Simply Report. In this show, Kristi shares how her organization has served over 5,000 survivors, how the app has helped save many victims by connecting them to immediate support, and how every human person has inherent value and dignity, whether it's the survivor of trafficking or her unborn child. Both lives matter.

Key Takeaways:

  • Of an estimated 300,000 American children being trafficked, it is estimated that just 1% are identified as victims and given the opportunity to escape.
  • Most trafficking victims know their traffickers, and 90% experience pregnancy at some point during their victimization.
  • Safe House Project has created an app, Simply Report, to help those who recognize the signs of trafficking to safely and quickly report what they have seen.
